Marvel Horror

I think it's time for Marvel to get into the horror business. Marvel has already announced a new Blade movie, a Moon Knight TV series and now possibly a Werewolf by Night Halloween special. So why not do some more straight horror TV shows? Here are my suggestions for a Marvel horror set of TV shows.

First some rules: 1. All of these should be "R" rated. Over 20 years ago Blade proved "R" rated Marvel can make money. Put these shows on HULU since that's owned by Disney now.

2. Give the writers/directors the freedom to make these weird. Don't make these follow a formula. Give these to people who have ideas that are outside of the box.

3. Farm these out to Blumhouse. If anyone knows how to make horror on a budget it's Blumhouse. Let them shepherd these shows. Frankly the lower budget would make these more interesting.

Now onto the shows!

The Tomb of Dracula

This was the series that kickstarted the Marvel horror line. It wasn't until the 70s that vampires were allowed in comics and Marvel wasted no time starting one.

They started with Dracula of course because he was the most well known and public domain.

Most of the series was written and drawn by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. The series introduced Blade in issue #10 and he was mostly forgotten until the Wesley Snipes movie.

It only makes sense to do a modern take on Dracula.

Man-Thing

Marvel actually made a Man-Thing movie back in 2005. It's not very good and mostly forgotten. It is available on Tubi if you want to check it out.

Man-Thing was the story of Ted Sallis who after exposure to chemicals and falling into the swamp becomes a swamp creature. Unlike Swamp Thing he was mostly mindless and never spoke.

Reboot the character but make him the antagonist of the series. Make the central characters the ones who are trying to stop the swamp creature. I mean after all people burn when he touches them if they are afraid of him. You can't just have that walking around the swamps of Florida.

Brother Voodoo

Yes, really. The story of Jericho Drumm who left Haiti and became a psychologist, only to return and become a Houngan.

This was a goofy 70's concept but could be made in a great series now if done correctly.

Ghost Rider

They have tried twice in movies and once on a TV series and still haven't gotten Ghost Rider right. I'm not ready to give up though. I loved this series and it could still be a great TV show. My advice would be to follow the Jason Aaron storyline from 2008. Have both Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch team up. Make the series about two guys on the roads of America seeking out supernatural events and taking vengeance if needed. Or go a whole new route and introduce a female Ghost Rider.

While none of these will probably happen, a horror comic nerd can dream.
